Because we missed the elephants in Thailand, reported to be the best tour of the cruise, we booked ourselves on to the Orangutans Tour in Penang
The write up suggested we walked through the cage with the orangutang roaming free around us. We did walk through the cage, it was wild and wonderful, but the animals were in large fenced areas with some food down near the cage to attract them down.
We did witness them roam free on the island, looking out from the school room area when we should have been watching a video!

The tour did have a very authentic, even Jurassic Park feel to it. You crossed to the island on a little boat, boarding this was via a very wobbly inflatable pontoon. I’ve balance issues from breaking C6 & C7 in my neck many years ago and I did have to rely on my friend for help here

My first photo shows the greediest of the orangutans patiently waiting for treats on the feeding platform which he duly received during our talk by the vet, who explained the rescue and rehabilitation work undertaken by the centre
A really nice, and unexpected lunch was provided, packed lunch style with fruit, croissants & snacks and there was a small shop you could wander around

Back on the wobbly jetty to the resort where the buskers or band were playing Soldier of Fortune, so I was a happy chappie
We had a little bit of time after the tour, and even though I was hot & sticky I jumped on the shuttle bus to see what Penang had to offer – another shopping centre, though if you’d more time there was a mosque and lots of streets to explore and guests did get some good finds!
I’d a Chai Latte and bought an eyeliner – priorities…

There were some comments made about the logo on my coffee cup, my friends have mostly teenage minds, I enjoyed it!
Got the last shuttle back to the ship, leapt into a cool shower & crashed on the bed for an hour. A day well spent
