Kuala Lumpur another day another tower

Pettronas Towers & me

A new port for me and I was very excited about my trip to Kuala Lumpur

It was another long drive from port and another full day tour and yes, it was hot & humid!

KL tower with Petronas Towers in background

Now, remember how we were the first World Cruise to leave Southampton, well we were the first European Cruise to visit a lot of these ports, and for our guide here, it was her first tour in over 3 years, and I’d have to be honest and say it did show.

After a little mix up with her tour tickets, not really sure what she did, but she ended up with someone else’s tickets, she simply disappeared, thankfully it wasn’t me the guests on the coach were getting fed up with but I eventually had to get off and find our manager. Thankfully guide was found and we were soon underway, but I can’t say her organisation improved any, oh well, you can’t have the great guides every time!

KL tower

First stop was the KL Tower and our trip almost to the top. The ticket didn’t include the lift right to the top with the glass floor and once you are up there you can’t just pay extra to go on up, so if you want to do that you need to sort it out before heading up

From ome tower we headed to another this time just to the outside of the Petronas Towers probably Kuala Lumpur’s best known landmark and from here it was off for a really delicious lunch with the nicest spring rolls and a really comprehensive buffet

Kuala Lumpur

What I loved about KL was the mix of old and new and I love how this photo has the old colonial building with the modern sky scraper

Street art Kuala Lumpur

We walked through the streets from the main square to the market and at the bridge we were lucky enough to see a huge Monitor Lizard out on patrol, my photo is rubbish though, which is also what he was living in, so I’ll show you some of the fab street art instead

The market was superb, really good value, I even bought a length of fabric that one day I might make into a skirt, maybe…

I’m trying hard not to concentrate on our guides errors, but remembering she kept us very late in leaving, and I soon learned to keep ontop of her at every stop for times & meeting points, I wasn’t quite prepared to arrive at our last stop as it closed. Though to be fair to her, she rushed in and persuaded them to stay open for us, this however left the group split & confused some going in the entrance, some following her in the exit and me bringing up the rear hoping for the best

Museum in KL

From what I could see the museum was made up of some indoor and some outdoor exhibits, it was nicely set out with a large square atrium and I’m certain on a good day it’s a lovely stop. We didn’t know when & where we were meeting, so getting everyone together was fun and unsurprisingly we were late and last back to the ship

Full credit to the P&O shore excursion team. They were waiting for us and got everyone back onboard They’d also been on hand when the guide simply disappeared that morning and it definitely highlights the benefits of a ships tour, when things go wrong the ship waits for the tour

That said, it was a really good tour, and we definitely managed to see a lot of Kuala Lumpur in a day with some delicious local cuisine thrown in for good measure
