Havana Nights

We had almost 2 nights in Havana and they were made for partying!

We’d just got back on board, hot & sticky and perhaps a little tipsy from the Hemingway tour when another new friend suggested we get off the ship and experience some real Cuban food so that’s how a short while later I was showered & changed and back out in Havana

The boat left at 10 and we were going to eat locally, but somehow I found myself in the front of a pink ford convertible being whizzed off to the best restaurant in town

I don’t think I ever knew what the restaurant was called, but it was up near the Jesus statue and made the best Pina Coladas I have ever tasted, 3CUC for a smooth fresh coconut &pineapple  confection that slid down way to easy!

I tried the traditional dish Vieja Ropa, a stewed beef, which was tasty if a little greasy, served with rice and a portion of black beans

And in another only in Cuba moment, we were soon joined at our table by the restaurant cat, hungry for any scraps that might come it’s way

A local 4 piece band had been keeping us entertained and it wasn’t long before a dog walked into the bar…..

I managed another Pina Colada while we waited for the taxi, well one of our group hadn’t tried a Cuba Libra yet and I had to keep her company!

Our driver got us back to the port with minutes to spare, thankfully the customs girls were all friendly and we boarded the ship at 9.27pm with 3 minutes to spare & 2 people still ashore

How would we ever top Havana…..
