I’m no art critic – I just love the pretty pictures
On my first full day in Madrid I headed off to do the art triangle
The metro is easy peasy – very similar to Londons, found Atocha station no bother but where were the museums? Friendly policeman said on the right…..
Walking, I see a big garden, the botanical gardens, people & lamposts with art flags on them, looks like a good place to start looking
Plan was Reina Sofia first as I love modern art, then Prado and finish in Thyssen-Bornemiza
Walking up the hill I discover I’m at the Prado but can’t find my way in! On the left says the security guard. Finds ticket office, it was cheap €14 maybe but no you can’t come in here, on the left says the clerk. So left I walked & finally found my way in thinking this better be worth it
Totally blown away! From the minute I finally got in I was surrounded by giant scale masterpieces. I spent almost 5 hours wandering through endless rooms of huge pictures, Raphael & Titan to Rubens, Goya & Rembrandt walked around in awe
There’s a lot of Goya & some is pretty disturbing! Temporary exhibitions of Ingres & La Tour were amazing I loved how it showed the build up of Ingres work, preliminary sketches & paintings
With a rumbling tummy & sore legs, but there’s more art lol, I finally checked out the cafe where free wifi gave me a map to Reina Sofia
No photography in Prado so here’s the plan
At information I asked directions to RS – left & left the girl said, the old guy rolled his eyes, obviously not his gallery of choice
I walked left & left, I tried to follow my map, at the roundabout I stopped to study phone, looked up & there it was
Yeah like how did I miss that!
Four floors of pretty cool modern art & a garden! On floor 2 access was blocked to section 206, no GUERNICA!!!! Determined not to let it spoil my day, I turned round after 205 to work my way backwards from 210 and guess what, access to 206 was from the back door so I saw Picassos masterpiece – no photos there though
Picasso, Dali, Gris & a host of others to explore
Thoroughly enjoyed my Arty Thursday in Madrid but no way was I getting to 3 galleries in one day
A lot of it was quite erotic!
